Brainbaby vs AppSheet: Mobile App Builders Compared
Compare Brainbaby and Google AppSheet for mobile apps: AI prompts, spreadsheets, branded apps, source handoff, costs and publishing.
Brainbaby and Google AppSheet can help teams begin an app without writing every screen by hand. We recommend Brainbaby first when you want a prompt-led React Native and Expo project that a developer can inspect and extend. AppSheet is worth considering when your app is a data-driven business workflow and you want to work with its existing editor and supported data sources.
This comparison is published by Brainbaby using public product documentation. It is not a controlled side-by-side test or an independent ranking. The field-inspection brief below is fictional, not a customer result. Features, prices and policies may change; confirm current details before choosing.
Brainbaby vs AppSheet at a glance
| Decision | Brainbaby | Google AppSheet |
|---|---|---|
| Starting point | Describe a mobile app and refine the generated project through prompts. | Configure an app with AppSheet's editor and supported data sources; Google also describes AI-assisted app creation for eligible users. |
| Mobile workflow | Brainbaby describes an exportable React Native and Expo project for iOS and Android. | AppSheet apps run on supported mobile devices and browsers; users can access an app through the AppSheet host. |
| Branded store app | Prepare and test signed builds, accounts and listings separately; stores review independently. | Google documents branded iOS and Android apps with specific licensing, developer-account and submission requirements. |
| Data | Specify and configure the project's backend, authentication and permissions. | AppSheet documents spreadsheet and other data-source connections; availability and governance depend on plan. |
| Handoff | Brainbaby describes source export. Inspect an actual project and its dependencies. | Confirm AppSheet's current data export, licensing and project portability before relying on a handoff. A branded binary is not the same as a React Native source export. |
| Cost | Builder access and usage depend on plan and account. Check the current in-product allowance. | AppSheet's plans and user licensing vary; branded apps have additional eligibility conditions. Check the current offer. |

Who should try each product?
Start with Brainbaby if you want to describe a mobile workflow, refine the generated project through conversation and review an export with a developer. Brainbaby also has chat, image tools, documents and presentations in the broader workspace; those features have their own plan and usage conditions and do not automatically become part of your mobile project.
Evaluate AppSheet if your team wants to build a business app around supported data and Google Workspace processes. Google documents creating apps using data sources, an editor and automation, and describes AI-assisted app creation for eligible paid Google Workspace users. Review which data sources, user permissions and administrative controls are available for your account.
Neither product removes the need to test access, error handling and real-device behavior. The best choice depends on your distribution model, maintenance team, data requirements and total cost.
A host app and a branded app are different
Google says a regular AppSheet app is hosted within the AppSheet mobile app. It also documents an optional branded app for iOS and Android that can be distributed separately or submitted to stores. Google describes a branded app as a copy of its host with your branding that runs your app. It is therefore inaccurate to say that AppSheet has no app-store path.
Google's branded app guidance states that branded use requires AppSheet Core for every app user with a minimum of ten licenses, or Publisher Pro when sign-in is not required. Confirm current eligibility, pricing and account terms before relying on these conditions. Google says Apple and Google independently review submissions, so approval is not guaranteed.
Brainbaby describes an exportable React Native and Expo project. A team can inspect the generated files and prepare its own builds, but a source export is not an approved store app. Identify your developer accounts, signing keys, backend and build process, then test the release candidate.
Evaluate a field-inspection app
Use the same fictional brief with both tools:
Build an inspection app for a maintenance team. A supervisor assigns a site, a technician records a checklist and photo, and the supervisor sees the completed report. Show a clear error if a submission fails and explain who can read the data.
Try these checks before inviting real staff:
- Assign an inspection with one test account and open it with another.
- Save a checklist and reload the app to verify where it persists.
- Check that a technician cannot view another organization's records.
- Interrupt connectivity while submitting and see whether a safe retry is possible.
- Upload a test image and check storage, access and deletion behavior.
- Ask the future maintainer how to export data, update the app and recover from a failed integration.
These are proposed tests, not claims that either platform passed. For a Brainbaby project, inspect the source and implement or configure the backend your app requires. For AppSheet, inspect the data source, security settings and app configuration. A visible filter or hidden screen is not proof of server-side authorization.
Data, permissions and project portability
AppSheet supports connections to various data sources; Google's documentation describes entry points such as Google Sheets and Forms, with additional features depending on plan. Check synchronization, user access, automation limits and any external service costs for your particular account. If you plan to leave, ask how app definitions, integrations and data can be transferred.
Brainbaby's project may need separately configured authentication, database, storage and hosting. Ask a developer to install a real export in a clean environment and list its dependencies. A project archive does not automatically transfer your store accounts, production data, API credentials or external subscriptions.
For both paths, use test data first, retain backups, keep privileged secrets on the server and document who owns each service. If the app handles sensitive information, review privacy, contractual and legal requirements with the relevant providers.
Cost and deployment planning
Brainbaby's pricing page lists mobile builder access on paid plans. The amount of work available depends on your current account allowance; inspect the builder and checkout before generating. Backend, maintenance, API and developer-account costs can be separate.
AppSheet pricing distinguishes plans and user licensing. Google says some Workspace subscriptions include AppSheet Core within an organization, while other requirements may call for additional subscriptions. Its branded-app documentation lists specific licensing conditions. Verify whether users must sign in, how many licenses are required, and what the final price is for your organization.
A branded app submitted to a store also requires developer accounts, signing, screenshots, disclosures and independent review. Google notes that creating an iOS branded app requires an Apple computer in its iOS instructions. Check current guidance before planning a release. The mobile app cost calculator helps record assumptions; it is not a quote.
Questions to ask before choosing
- Do users need a separate store listing, or is access through a host app or browser sufficient?
- Which data sources, automations and permissions are included in our plan?
- Can we export the source, app definition and data needed for a handoff?
- How are user licenses counted for employees and external customers?
- Who controls signing, developer accounts, backups and service credentials?
- What happens if the network fails or a user loses access?
Frequently asked questions
Can AppSheet apps be published in app stores?
Google documents branded iOS and Android apps that can be submitted to stores, subject to licensing, developer-account setup and independent review. A standard AppSheet app can also run through the AppSheet host app.
Does Brainbaby export mobile source code?
Brainbaby's mobile page describes exporting a React Native and Expo project. Inspect a real export, configure required services and test the release on target devices before launch.
Is a branded AppSheet app the same as an exported React Native project?
No. Google describes a branded app as a branded copy of its host that runs your AppSheet app. Brainbaby describes a React Native and Expo source handoff. Ask each provider about the precise files, data and services available to your account.
Which is better for a business workflow?
We recommend Brainbaby when a prompt-led mobile project and developer handoff are priorities. AppSheet may fit a team that prefers its data-driven editor and Workspace integration. Compare a real task, licensing and maintenance needs before choosing.
